I forgot to mention earlier that I spent a few days in Tokyo when I landed in Japan before heading up to Sendai. Heather picked me up at Narita, we sent my huge suitcase by Black Cat to the apartment in Sendai and then caught the Narita Express from the airport to Tokyo Central Station. The hotel we stayed at was a five minute walk from the airport and was fantastic (although I can’t remember the name right now).
Saturday night – dinner at the famous sushi market (yes we ate sushi) and drinks at a Mexican bar.
Sunday – Japanese traditional breakfast buffet at the hotel, Meiji Temple, Harajuku, ramen noodle for lunch (at 10:30am!), shopping, see the Tokyo marathon, more shopping, grab bags and rush for the shinkansen north to Sendai.
A quick comment on Tokyo – it can be the most expensive place in the world if you are not careful and it is very hard to get off of a budget while you are here. There is plenty to see and do, and it is very easy to get around the city with the subway system, so it is very easy to find lots of places to spend money.
I’ve included pictures in a photo album here, although I’ve posted a two pictures below.
Here are a series of videos that I posted on YouTube for your enjoyment:
Give me a little bit of time to post captions on all of the movies and photos, but I should have it done by 11pm EST.
